I completed a Masters in Creative writing at West Dean College in 2013 and published Perry Scrimshaw’s Rite of Passage in September 2015. I was the first winner of the New Buds Award from New Writing South in 2011, which I used to research part of the Buenos Aires section of the book. I’ve also run the ‘Beneath the Pier’ writing collective in Brighton from August 2011 – 2016.
In 2016, i quit my job and me and my wife took off in our camper van “Van Helsing” in search of adventure and travel. While staying in Seville for a couple of months, i wrote a new Young Adult novel that would become Orca Rising. I sent it off to a few agents, and was picked up by David Haviland at the Andrew Lownie literary agency. Orca Rising is a finalist for the 2018 People’s Book Prize.
We settled on the south coast in Andalusia near the sugar cube town of Salobreña, with views of the snowy Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean. Our cottage has over 50 fruit trees, lots of vegetables growing, chickens galore and a dog (check out @permafool on Instagram for pics), so there’s plenty to keep me busy. And now we have a son, Toby, who is obsessed with books and reads already!
